Mobile skate park launches in Blaby district

Posted on June 5, 2013 by staff

Enderby Leisure Centre hosted the launch of a brand new mobile skate park last Friday evening (May 31).

The Wheels Project is an indoor skate park session for skateboards, rollerblades, scooters and BMX.

Around 50 young people attended the event, which saw guest appearances and demos from pro freestyle BMX riders Keelan Phillips, Matt Armstrong and skateboarder Mike Simons.

Claire Jarvis, Sports & Recreation Development Officer at Blaby District Council, said:

“The Blaby District Health and Leisure Services team invested in the mobile skate park after listening to the views of its young people. The trial event we held in March was a huge success so we knew there was a real demand for something like this in the area.”

In addition to the regular sessions the skate park equipment will be available for hire by the community.

The sessions at the leisure centre now run every Friday, 7.30pm for 8-13 year olds and 8.45pm for 14+, costing £2 a session. Anyone under the age of 16 must have consent to take part.

There will also be Wheels Project sessions at areas across the district this summer. For a full list of venues and times visit www.sportblaby.org.uk
