Maypole mayhem at Blaby Farmers’ Market

Posted on May 13, 2011November 27, 2011 by staff

MaypoleShoppers visiting Blaby Farmers’ Market on Saturday May 28 can have a go at maypole dancing or enjoy a performance of the traditional dance by children from Greenfield Primary School in Countesthorpe.

Carole Troake, economic development officer at Blaby District Council said:

“I hope lots of people turn up to see the children perform. It’s great to see the skill of maypole dancing passed on to younger generations and it’s not something we often get to see nowadays.”

A selection of fresh meat, fish, pies, bread, pastries, cakes, cheese, preserves and chutneys will be on sale at the market and refreshments will be available inside the Blaby Social Centre along with a table top sale.

Maypole dancing starts at 10.30am.

Leicestershire Food Links work in partnership with the district council to organise the markets, which are held on the fourth Saturday of each month in the car park of Blaby Social Centre, Leicester Road, from 9am- 1pm.
