Marie Curie on par with fundraising

Posted on March 10, 2014 by staff

MC & Rothley Golf ClubThe South Leicestershire Marie Curie Fundraising Support group were delighted to receive a donation of £8,300 from last year’s Rothley Park Golf Club Captains, Phil Watson and Pru Lapworth.

Marie Curie Cancer Care was their chosen charity and the club held many fundraising activities over the year including lunches, dinners, fun golf matches and many other events.

Joan Rampton, Volunteer Fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care in South Leicestershire, visited the club recently to receive the donation said:

“Marie Curie would like to thank all members at Rothley Park Golf Club who contributed so generously throughout the year at the Captains’ fundraising events.”

As well as organising Daffodil Appeals in South Leicestershire the Support Group held a Coffee Morning recently at St Pius X Church Hall, Narborough where over £633.00 was raised.

Volunteer Cara Ackerman said:

“It is such fun being part of the group and we all enjoy sharing the Marie Curie message. We are delighted to see that after only three months we have already raised nearly £9,000.

“We are always happy to welcome new members and many of our group have been associated with Marie Curie either in the Fundraising Department or the nursing services.

“The group could not be so successful without the help of local volunteers who work very hard to help raise funds and to reach such an amazing total for the charity.”

The next date on the calendar of fundraising events for the group is a Blooming Great Tea Party to be held on Tuesday 24th June 2014 at 52 Abbey Road, Enderby LE19 2DA.

Fundraising volunteer Joan Rampton opens her gardens for the event and is supported by local neighbours who provide a selection of plants for sale.

With the traditional tea and sumptuous home made cakes, Tombola, cards, a raffle, bric-a-brac, jewellery, handbags and a cryptic Leicestershire Towns and Villages Quiz, the group are are aiming high this year and are keen to raise even more funds to help more Marie Curie Nurses to provide free care to patients with terminal cancer and other illnesses in the comfort of their own homes.

To get help from the Marie Curie Nursing Service, talk to your GP, district nurse or discharge nurse. For more information, please visit: www.mariecurie.org.uk.
