Locally designed benches fitted in time for Remembrance Day

Posted on November 8, 2012 by staff

Seven new benches have been installed in the British Legion Memorial Garden, on Lutterworth Road, Blaby, in time for Remembrance Day services on November 11.

Local craftsman Shirley Smith designed and made four of the benches, which include a unique poppy design.

The benches were funded by Blaby District Council and Leicestershire County Council, from the Better Places budget as part of the ongoing improvements in Blaby.

Liz Oakes, Blaby Town Centre Manager, said:

“The benches look absolutely fantastic and I hope they add something special to the Remembrance Day services taking place on Sunday.

“The benches are part of the ongoing improvements being carried out within Blaby, all of which have been well received by businesses and residents alike.”
