Leisure centres across Blaby District are celebrating a successful reopening period after new and returning members flocked to the facilities.
Enderby Leisure and Golf Centre and Huncote Leisure Centre, run by Everyone Active in partnership with Blaby District Council, reopened their doors on Monday, April 12 after three months of closure due to the third lockdown.
And numbers through the doors showed that members were keen to get active again.
The first week open saw the highest attendances of the pandemic in activity areas the centres have been able to offer.
Increase in attendance numbers
No fewer than 4,549 people used the gym at Enderby Leisure Centre in the first week after reopening, a 17% increase on the previous highest total of 3,904.
Some 844 people used the swimming pool, a 12% increase on the previous best.
At Huncote Leisure Centre, 584 people attended the gym, a 30% increase on the previous best of 449, while the 239 people who took part in badminton and squash played their part in a 37% increase from the previous highest total of 174.
James Naylor, Contract Manager at Everyone Active, said: “We’re so pleased to see so many new and returning members using our centres following our reopening.
“We’ve had an overwhelmingly positive response from customers, who are delighted to be able to exercise in an indoor, Covid-safe environment once more.
“We will continue to ensure the safety of customers and colleagues by meeting and exceeding Government guidance and look forward to welcoming more members of the community soon.”
John Richardson, Strategic Director at Blaby District Council, said: “We are delighted to see so many people returning to Enderby and Huncote leisure centres.
“The number of people using both sites since reopening has exceeded our expectations and demonstrates the value they offer for the social, physical and mental wellbeing of our residents.
“Our partners Everyone Active continue to work hard, making both leisure centres as Covid-safe as possible, which should give extra confidence to new and existing members that they can return and once again enjoy the first class, recently refurbished and enhanced facilities on offer.”
