Local Heroes Award-Ceremony

Last chance for Enderby folk to nominate their local hero

Posted on July 8, 2014 by staff

Local Heroes Award-CeremonyPeople in Enderby, and across the rest of Blaby District, are running out of time to nominate their local heroes for this year’s Outstanding Achievement Awards.

Friends, families and workmates are being urged to put forward individuals and groups who they think deserve recognition for exceptional work in the community by the August 9 deadline.

A total of £750 is up for grabs in each category.

The awards, which celebrated running for a decade last year, has four new categories and Casepak as the new main sponsor.

The categories are:

  • Good friend/good neighbour
  • Volunteer of the year
  • Young achiever of the year
  • Best community group/community achievement

Previous winners include Cosby cyclist Lucy Garner, who recently took part in the Women’s Tour, and 90-year-old Donald Wills, who volunteered as a neighbourhood watch co-ordinator in Braunstone Town for 13 years.

Council Leader Ernie White said:

“The awards are a great opportunity to shine the spotlight on those who have enhanced the quality of people’s lives within the district. Quite often these are ordinary people who have done special things. I’m looking forward to seeing which local heroes we can uncover this time round.”

The 2014 awards have received generous sponsorship from Casepak, Fosse Shopping Park, Ford & Slater, Leicester Marriott and Westleigh Developments ltd.

Finalists will be invited to a presentation dinner on Thursday 2 October 2014 where cash prizes and awards will be presented to the winners and runners up.

Nominations can be submitted online at www.blaby.gov.uk/awards or you can request a form by contacting the communications team at public.relations@blaby.gov.uk or by calling 0116 272 7577.

The deadline for entries is Saturday August 9 2014.
