Just ‘Turn Up’ for some fun tennis sessions at Thorpe Astley

Posted on June 10, 2016June 10, 2016 by staff

tennisballsResidents in the area are being invited to ‘Turn Up Tennis’, a series of fun family tennis sessions being held on the tennis courts at Thorpe Astley Community Centre.

Turn Up Tennis Provides the opportunity to simply turn up and play.

Initially there are eight pilot sessions planned and they take place on the Community Centre’s Tennis Courts on Wednesdays, 6.30 to 8.30pm, and cost just £3 per session.

It is a great chance for family members of all ages and abilities to meet new people who share a desire to play tennis in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

The sessions have been organised in conjunction with the Blaby District Local Sport Alliance Team.

The Blaby District Local Sports Alliance is an organisation who strive to promote and develop sport and physical activity in the local Blaby District area.

Just as the tennis season is in full-swing with action currently at the Nottingham Open, the initial session of the ‘Turn Up Tennis’ took place on Wednesday 8th June and feedback was both positive and encouraging.

One attendee commented:

“Tennis is portrayed as an elite sport and some tennis clubs can be a little bit stuffy, competitive and even slightly intimidating to people who just want to enjoy a friendly game.

“These sessions are pitched nicely between the casual unorganised knock-about and serious competitive match-play. With experienced players on hand to help and guide us it was great. Definitely going to be making the most of this opportunity.
