Job shadowing success for Youth Council

Posted on November 22, 2016November 22, 2016 by staff

Job shadow Y.C. membersA job shadowing initiative for members of the Blaby District Youth Council has given young people valuable insight into the world of work.

Six of the Youth Council shadowed staff from six very different departments, including Planning Environmental Health and Legal Services, to gain valuable insight into local government, and to help their future career path.

One member of the Youth Council, Simran, who took part in a placement with Legal Services, said:

“It was a really great day. I enjoyed it and found it very useful – especially in making my next choices for A-Levels and sixth form as well as later on in life.”

Fellow Youth Council member Charlie-Ann said: “I thoroughly enjoyed it, learned a lot and found it a very useful and inspiring experience!”

Councillor Ben Taylor, Youth Council Champion, said:

“This provided a great opportunity for young people to better understand the world of work. It is also an excellent way for them to gain confidence.

“It shows that we are committed to providing opportunities for young people to better understand the world of work and give them ideas for a future career path.”

The Youth Council, relaunched in 2015, has been popular with young people who make a difference to their district.

As well as campaigns and project work, the Youth Council can also award Youth Grants of up to £1,000 for local groups and organisations.
