January prices cut for park-and-ride

Posted on January 11, 2013January 11, 2013 by staff

A new year sale on park-and-ride tickets is operating during January.

Lower-price tickets are available for the services which run between Leicester city centre and Birstall, Enderby and Meynell’s Gorse.

Until January 26, day tickets will be reduced from £3 to £2, group day tickets from £3.50 to £3 and weekly tickets from £14 to £9.50.

There are also reductions on 10-trip and four-weekly tickets.

Lesley Pendleton, the county council’s spokesman for environment and transport, said:
“These discounted park-and-ride tickets are a real new year bargain.

The sales can get extremely busy and we hope people will use the services to take some of the stress out of trying to find a parking space.”

Changes are due to be made to the services at the end of January.

From Monday, January 28, the Enderby and Birstall services will use separate buses.

Service 203 will run from the Enderby site to and from St Nicholas Place, via Grove Park, and will operate every 10 minutes.

The Birstall bus will be renumbered 303 and will run to and from the city via Haymarket and Causeway Lane every 15 minutes.

Service 103 will run from Meynell’s Gorse to and from St Nicholas Place only. This service will run every 12 minutes at peak times and all day Saturdays, and every 15 minutes off-peak.

Leicestershire County Council said the changes would improve the reliability of all three services.

Coun Pendleton said:

“We are also pleased that the changes to the services will see an increase in frequency and we hope they will encourage more people to try out the park-and-ride for themselves.”
