Latest addition to the Parish Council’s efforts to enhance the area of Townsend Road close to the Library has been installed.
The installation of a commemorative bench follows on from a decision by Enderby Parish Council to mark the 75th Anniversary of VE Day on Friday, 8th May 2020.
The bench design includes silhouettes depicting military personnel.
The overhaul of the area on Townsend Road – which was an eyesore until the Parish Council project was launched last year – resulted in the old toilet block being re-purposed and the exterior painted with artwork by artists Rebecca Bromley and Ellie-Rose. (See EYE news item 5/9/19).
One wall depicts images representing the seventy-nine men from Enderby who lost their lives in the two world wars and it was felt appropriate that the newly installed commemorative bench was located opposite the refurbished area as the decoration on the bench complements the painted images representing the fallen from Enderby.
Recently the old (unsightly) lighting column was safely removed from the front of the seating area in front of the re-purposed building and the addition of a further bench opposite has transformed an otherwise bland street scene into a welcoming place for resting tired feet.
