Organisations Commit to an Even Better Quality of Life

Enderby residents, together with residents in other areas within the District should benefit from 'Blaby Together' the main public, private and voluntary sector partnership for improving the quality of life in Blaby District.

The partnership has signed up to an ambitious programme of work to make the District an even better place in which to live, work and enjoy leisure time.

Childminders are being targeted by an email asking them to look after American children.

Local Trading Standards officers have seen two emails that are purported to be written by different people, but both messages are almost identical.

The emails are written by people who purport to be Americans, who are coming to live in England.

They say they are single parents, who have a three year old son and a younger child and they need a childminder.

The email asks for the childminders location and fees.

They say they will post a 'certified UK cheque' in advance for the deposit and pay cash on arrival.

Both end: 'I await your urgent response'....

Silver Charter Mark for Squash Facilities

The Squash Club at The Pavilion, Huncote, run by Coach Kathy Smith, has received a prestigious award, The Squash England Silver Charter Mark.

Andy Hastings, Squash England's Area Development Manager for the East Midlands, visited the centre on May 7th to carry out an assessment of the facilities and the Squash club's activities.

The Centre already held a Bronze Charter Mark, however following the recent refurbishment work at the Pavilion and Kathy's work to introduce more members and new leagues, the centre was encouraged to apply for the Silver Standard.

Clubs apply to England Squash for a Charter mark by completing a "Club Health Check" which allows them to identify their own strengths and areas where the Area Squash Managers can offer support...

Firm gets funding to build affordable homes

An award-winning company founded in 1985 and which has its base in nearby Grange Business Park, off Enderby Road, Whetstone, has been given £6.1 million of Government funding as part of a scheme to build more affordable homes.

The Government's Housing Corporation has awarded Westleigh Developments almost £1 million more than any other company.

The money comes as part of the Corporation's £8.4 billion National Affordable Housing Programme (NAHP), which takes place over 3/4yrs between 2008 and 2011.

The investment programme is the largest undertaken in the Corporation's history and aims to provide 155,000 new affordable homes.
