Iceland to open store in Blaby Town Centre

Posted on July 23, 2019 by staff

Supermarket giant Iceland has confirmed that it plans to open a new store in Blaby Town Centre in late January 2020.

The new store will be located in the former Waitrose premises, and is one of 50 stores opening up and down the country under the company’s Iceland and The Food Warehouse fascias during its current financial year to March 2020.

Councillor Terry Richardson, Leader of Blaby District Council, said: “I am delighted to hear that Iceland are coming to Blaby Town Centre as I feel they will be a great fit in terms of their product and will attract shoppers and visitors from all over the District. It was a sad day when Waitrose closed but this news will be a great boost to our valued businesses in the town.

“On top of the free 2 hour car parking that we announced last week the future is suddenly looking a lot brighter for the town. We have also agreed to invest in an officer to support our Town and Village centre business groups and work with them to establish annual events, improve marketing through social media and make the little aesthetic changes that can make a big difference.

“January 2020 may seem a way off yet for the store to open but it will come round quickly!”

Keith Hann, Director of Corporate Affairs at Iceland said: “It is great to finally announce that we are bringing Iceland to Blaby. The store will be in an excellent location at the heart of the town centre.

“We are really looking forward to meeting our new customers and celebrating the opening. The store will showcase the wide range of choice that we offer including not just the frozen food for which we are famous but also fresh and chilled food, food cupboard staples, and beers, wines and spirits.

“We do have a number of other store openings taking place before Blaby, but the good news is that we are on our way! We will continue to work closely with the District Council and keep everyone informed of our opening plans.”
