Posted on August 15, 2015 by staff

WYGGESTON_010 This September, Ride + Stride is back in Leicester for its 26th year and organisers are hoping it will the biggest and best yet.

The event, which takes place nationwide on Saturday 12 September, is sponsored in Leicestershire by rural land and property experts Andrew Granger & Co.

It was launched this week with a pre-meeting with a horse and rider, cyclist and walker at St Ursula’s Chapel, Wyggeston’s Hospital in Leicester. (Pictured above)

Bringing together 400 churches, chapels and religious sites across Leicestershire, the cycling, horse-riding and walking event is a real celebration of Leicestershire heritage and all money raised goes towards repairs for Leicestershire’s historic churches, chapels and meeting house.

Joggers, runners and mobility scooter drivers are also encouraged to join in.

Rupert Harrison, Joint Managing Director of Andrew Granger & Co, said:

“As a firm working with rural communities, we understand that preserving churches and historic buildings is vital to retaining the character of the countryside and our towns. So we are delighted to be supporting Leicestershire Ride + Stride once more.”

Participants get themselves sponsored per church visited or for taking part in the event.

Some raise as much as a £1,000 to experience the hidden gems and beautiful churches taking part. To date the event has raised more than £900,000 for churches across the county with figures reaching in excess of around £1.2 million nationally each year.

Ashling Toolan, a Trainee Rural Surveyor at Andrew Granger & Co bought her horse, Noddy, along for the pre-launch event. She said:

“This event is a perfect day out for all horse riders and their horses, I would definitely encourage all of my fellow horse riders to get involved. Not only do you get to explore the county and see hidden gems you may not have known were there, but you are also helping to raise money for a very good cause, keeping all of our churches in good condition.”

One of the events taking place across Britain, Ride + Stride Leicestershire takes place on Saturday 12 September between 10am-6pm.
