Health award given to energy group

A national distribution centre based in Enderby has won a coveted award for encouraging staff to lead healthier lifestyles.

Centrica Distribution, part of the parent company that own British Gas, were presented with the Leicestershire and Rutland Health and Well Being award by Councillor Barry Garner, chairman of Blaby District Council.

The certificate is given to businesses that promote staff well being by offering healthy food options at work, advice and help on quitting smoking and access to physical activities.

300 employees at the site inGroveParkbenefit from free fruit, healthy lunch options, in-house stop smoking clinics, corporate gym membership, a bike-to-work scheme, lunch time walks and regular team challenges.

Zoe Wilson, regional well being manager for the company said:

“Health and well being has become business as usual here and that has helped motivate staff and reduce sickness absences.

“This is great recognition for all the hard work we have put into improving the lifestyles of our employees, and we intend to build on this in the future.”

The award is supported by all local authorities in Leicestershire and has previously been given to major companies such asAllianceand Leicester in Enderby, Nisan in Harborough and Asda distribution centre.

Victoria Smith, Blaby District Council’s health Improvement officer said:

“We have a strong support team to help businesses achieve this standard that consists of dietetic, food safety and physical activity co-ordinators.”
