Posted on July 8, 2014July 8, 2014 by staff

senior walkersA new health and wellbeing programme especially for older people living with a long term health condition such as diabetes, mental health issues, stroke, circulatory and respiratory diseases is launching in Blaby District.

The Get Going Together Project aims to increase residents’ physical activity in order to improve independence and quality of life.

Blaby District Council’s health and leisure team will be working in partnership with Age UK Leicestershire and Rutland to deliver the physical activity programmes locally.

Residents will be able to choose from a variety of activities to suit a wide range of needs, including chair based keep-fit sessions suitable for those with restricted mobility, walking, dancing, indoor bowls, Tai Chi, Zumba, and many more.

Age UK is also on the lookout for volunteers who have an interest in promoting the health and wellbeing of older people.

To get involved or to find out more information please contact Phillipa Stanbridge, Get Going Together Project Coordinator, on 0116 233 7365 or 07791 086 521. You can also email phillipa.stanbridge@ageukleics.org.uk

The project will be running for the next three years across Blaby District, Oadby and Wigston, and Leicester City.
