Funding sought for Blaby Old Mortuary Chapel and Burial Ground restoration work

Posted on September 22, 2017September 22, 2017 by staff

Blaby Parish Council is in the process of applying to the Heritage Lottery Fund for a grant to restore the Mortuary Chapel and Burial Ground.

If the application is successful and a grant is awarded, there will be some work carried out to grave markers that are in danger of toppling, or those that have already fallen.

The work would be carried out by professional local stone masons in accordance with National Association of Monumental Masons guidelines.

There will be sympathetic cleaning of all the grave markers by an accredited heritage stone mason.

There is also likely to be extensive work carried out to the hedgerows, to the over-bearing and self-set trees and to the grasslands within the grounds.

None of this work will be undertaken before April 2018  at the earliest.

If anyone has relatives buried within the grounds, or knows of living relatives to any of the deceased, they are asked to contact Mrs Vicki Jepson (Manager to Blaby Parish Council) or Miss Beverley Letts (Funding and Events) on 0116 278 4728, by letter to the Civic Centre, 22-24, Leicester Road, Blaby. Leicester LE8 4GQ or email events@blabyparishcouncil.org
