Final reminder to return electoral registration forms

Posted on October 5, 2011November 27, 2011 by staff

People are being reminded to return their electoral registration forms to Blaby District Council before canvassers begin visiting homes to collect the information.

The first blue forms were sent out in August followed by a red reminder notice a month later.

Residents who have not yet responded will receive another reminder asking them to update the details for all members of their household to ensure that everyone who is eligible to vote is included on the electoral register.

If people have not registered their details by the end of October, canvassers will be visiting their homes to gather the information.

Anyone who does not appear on the electoral register will not be able to vote at parliamentary, European parliamentary or local government elections.

Residents are required by law to complete and return the form for all eligible persons living at the property on 15 October 2011. Failure to do so could result in a £1,000 fine and may affect a person’s ability to access credit facilities.

The form shows the names of people who already appear on the electoral register at that address. If no changes are needed the details can be confirmed by freephone, text or internet using the security code provided.

People confirming their details by freephone and internet will be given the option to be included or excluded in the edited register.*

If there are new names to be added or other alterations to make then the form must be completed, signed and returned to the council offices in the envelope provided.

People using any of the automated systems do not need to post the form back to the Council.

For more information call the elections team on 0116 272 7560.

The Registers

The full register lists the name and address of everyone who is registered to vote. The Council holds a copy. Anyone can look at it, but it is a criminal offence to supply or use copies for purposes other than those set down in law.

The edited register is available for general sale and can be used for any purpose. It can be bought by any person, company or commercial organisation for commercial activities such as marketing.
