Enderby Civic Centre is due to be filled with ‘fairydust’ in March when Enderby Twinning Association in partnership with Enderby Parish Council present a production by Fishhouse Theatre.
Powered by Fairydust is a hilarious comedy-drama with a heart of gold that “looks rural isolation right in the eye, leaving audiences in tears of joy and sadness”.
Fishhouse Theatre started because of a need to tell women’s stories. Founded by Alison Dunne in 2015, Fishhouse have been producing, writing and performing small scale productions that have been performed locally and further afield, at Buxton and Brighton fringe festivals. Fishhouse are a new company in development with Live & Local‘s DART Scheme for 2019.
Powered by Fairydust centres around retired hairdresser, Janis Barlow, who is the book volunteer for the local community library, driving round the county in her Smart car, delivering to people who can’t get to the library.
Lonely and needing a project, she takes it upon herself to help those in rural isolation – in the hope of finding her own ‘hope and personal growth’.
It is a two-hander comedy that looks rural isolation right in the eye, making you laugh and perhaps shed a little tear.
Janis has always tried to do good in her life and help herself through synchronised swimming, meditation and all the therapies you can think of. With a will and determination like never before, Janis packs her crystals and her rollers to try and help her local community.
Janis is irrepressible, funny and relatable to audiences dealing with a universal subject of rural isolation and loneliness. Heartfelt and earnest, this is not a show to miss!
‘You’ll laugh and cry with Janis as you watch her exploring her new passion. ‘the audience feel as though they are just listening to a conversation from this bubbly, funny, but sad dreamer – a very likeable character with whom you want to spend your time’ – Robbie Carnegie, Buxton Fringe Review
‘Janis makes you laugh and breaks your heart’ – Story City audience
