Carlton's Juniors

Teenager Jonathan Green is a junior member of Carlton I.B.C. and has been playing bowls for four or five years, during which he went to Brockington College, just across the road from the Leisure Centre. He lives in Enderby
He is now a regular member of the club's competitive Inter Club League team and also usually fills the singles slot in the Top Ten team against other clubs both in and outside of Leicestershire.
Last November Jonathan won the English Indoor Bowling Association's under-18 title at the National School of Excellence finals at Rugby.
The 16-year old won his morning singles group at the English Bowls Youth Development Scheme and finished fifth in the skills section in the afternoon. Losing the singles final by only one shot he finished top of the points table to win the overall title.
Jonathan is now in line for an under-25 international trial later this year.
This is the second time that a Carlton I.B.C. junior player has won this prestigious title. 17-year old Daniel Clevely also won the title in 2003 and went on to win the Leicestershire County Indoor Bowling Association's two wood singles title against some formidable and very experienced senior opposition. Daniel is now at university.
Unlike two or three of the bigger and more fashionable indoor bowling clubs in Leicestershire, who have dozens of junior members, Carlton never has more than five or six juniors. At present we have only three. However, it does have the advantage that coaching can be very intensive on a one to one basis.
Needless to say we are very proud of Jonathan and Daniel, both of whom, we are sure, will go on to bigger and greater things.
New juniors would be very welcome - annual subs are just £10 and, apart from the usual rink fees, no charge is ever made for coaching.
