A partnership between Blaby District Council and Everyone Active will see the expansion of the successful Exercise Referral Scheme offering pool-based classes.
The 12-week scheme offers people who are currently inactive have a medical condition the opportunity to participate in exercise and benefit from physical activity under the guidance of qualified professional.
After previously only being hosted at the Pavilion Leisure Centre, Everyone Active’s involvement will see the Referral Scheme and specialist classes made available at Enderby Leisure Centre. The beginner classes in Enderby will include an exercise circuit, gym workout and swimming.
Toni, the specialist Aquatic in Health Instructor leading the ‘wet programme,’ said: “We’re delighted to be launching the Exercise Referral Scheme at Enderby Leisure Centre and hope it will help to encourage more people to lead healthier lifestyles.
“Those who are referred onto the scheme will be given all the support and guidance they need from our expert teams to help them along their journey. Swimming activities are the ideal introduction to being more active and are lots of fun too!”
Councillor Iain Hewson, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Regulatory Services, said: “We are extremely proud to offer the Exercise Referral Scheme for residents of the district who need it. The positive impact it makes on people’s lives is nothing short of incredible.
“Our partnership with Everyone Active will ensure those who can benefit most from water-based exercise will get the chance to use the pool at Enderby Leisure Centre to start their journey.”
Anyone who feels they are physically inactive and would like to be referred onto the scheme needs to be referred through their GP.
