Enderby man charged over child porn

Eduard_van_BuulA man has today (Friday August 8, 2014) been jailed for more than five years for child pornography offences.

Eduard Van Buul, formerly of Pope Crescent, Enderby, admitted 30 charges of possessing and distributing indecent images of children, and three charges of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

He was sentenced today to a total of five years and four months imprisonment. He was also issued with a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) and will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

The accountant distributed the images to fellow paedophiles internationally, communicating with them in English, German and Dutch.

Van Buul possessed 630 indecent images of children at level one, 50 at level two, 154 at level three, 189 at level four (including 72 videos) and 20 in the most serious category, level 5.

He had 16 images or videos of extreme pornography involving bestiality.

Following intelligence, Leicestershire Police arrested him and seized computers from his home and workplace.

He was sacked when his employers found out about the police investigation.

All his contacts were made through a work computer.

The incitement offences involved a girl aged between 13 and 15, who never physically met Van Buul.

He asked her over the internet to take indecent images of herself and send them to him.

He also sent indecent images to her, some of which were at the highest level (Category A) of the five levels classified.

Detective Sergeant 746 Paul Hawkins heads Leicestershire Police’s Paedophile and Online Investigation Team. He said:

“Van Buul admitted to us that he had been communicating with children and paedophiles and accessing such material for more than 20 years.

“His offending appears to have been kept from his family, as there was no evidence to support that he accessed such material from home.

“The evidence presented in court against Van Buul is just a snap shot of his offending and that it is highly likely that there may be other victims out there – I would encourage them to come forward. Van Buul’s offending is sickening, as he thought nothing of distributing images of very young children being abused, children who were clearly in distress.

“This case shows the explosion in technology and social media has created increasing opportunities for those with a sexual interest in child. Parents should remain vigilant as to who their children are communicating with online, and what they are communicating about.

“I would encourage parents to familiarise themselves with technology children are using to access the internet and encourage them to visit the www.thinkuknow.co.uk website, which has been created by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) and is full of useful information for both children and parents on how to remain safe online and have fun.”

He encouraged them to familiarise themselves with technology children were using and to visit the website which has been created by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) at: www.thinkuknow.co.uk.

He said parents should remain vigilant as to who their children were communicating with online.

Anyone who has further information about Van Buul’s activities should phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or Leicestershire Police on 101, asking for the POLIT team.
