Enderby Community Library officially opened its doors on Saturday 14th May to a fanfare provided by members of the Enderby Band.
The community run library had been opening its doors following a ‘soft-launch’ on May 3rd, when the first volunteers had a taste of ‘live’ operation of the library.
Also, in the days running up to the official launch date, last minute building work was taking place.
Ageing and weather-worn windows were replaced and a new light and airey room was created for use by small groups for meetings, etc.
A new disabled toilet and baby-changing facility were installed and lighting throughout the library was converted to LED units to save energy and provide better illumination.
Apart from being entertained by Enderby Band, visitors to the official launch were able to look around the new library and meet and speak with two special guests, local authors Lynda Page and Cathy Bramley (pictured below).

Tea, coffee and light-refreshments (generously donated by the Co-operative Food store 19 Cross Street) were available and in the main hall of the Civic Centre visitors were able to see presentations from local organisations and neighbourhood police officers. Face-painting with a literary theme was available for the younger visitors.
Outside, local estate agents Harrison Murray provided information and some light-hearted fun with a set of stocks and a plentiful supply of wet sponges (and not forgetting a plucky ‘victim’ for target practice!)
A 27 prize raffle was drawn at 3.30pm with winners being awarded prizes ranging from gift vouchers and free sessions at leisure centres to bottles of wine and chocolates. Prizes were donated by local businesses and organisations.
Full details of prize winners and prizes won is available to view in the library.
