Neil Townsend (L) receives the framed early photographs of the band from Garth Young (R). Concert Band conductor Stewart Osgood is in the centre, and featured soloist Stan Lippeatt, formerly of Grimethorpe Colliery Band is seated on the right.

At their recent highly successful joint concert with the Concordia Choir at the Parish Church, Enderby Concert Band trombonist Garth Young presented the Enderby Band Organisation with two framed photographs of the original Enderby Band dating from about 1895 and 1910.

Contributor Brian Screaton tells us the photographs were received by the Band’s President, Neil Townsend, and will hang in the Band Room at Huncote.

The Band has a third historic photograph, dating from 1931, and showing the band of that era in front of Enderby Hall.

Garth has a connection with this photograph, inasmuch as his father, Ernest, was then the Bandmaster, and is third from the right on the front row.

Garth’s grandfather, Charles, is thought to have been a founder member of the Band.

Garth is keen to establish the names of certain players in the photograph (below), particularly the cornet player fourth from the left on the back row, the two trombone players third and fourth from the left on the middle row, and the euphonium player third from the left on the front row. If you have any information Garth would be delighted to hear from you on 0116 2862419.
