A number of people, described in local media as ‘Good Samaritans’, intervened in an attempt to prevent a woman jumping from the Osiers Bridge which spans the A5460 between M1 J21 and the Fosse Park roundabout.
The incident, which happened around 7pm on Sunday evening, caused police to close the roads for a short time, when police tweeted “19:50 Road closures in place from Which Way Island to the Fosse Park Roundaboutand part of the A563 across Osiers Bridge. This is due to a police incident…….” At 8.10pm they tweeted “Roads are now open, thank you all for your patience. Also, thank you to the members of public who stopped to assist.”
Eyewitnesses are reported as saying they saw a guy walking slowly towards the woman on the bridge, another guy came up from behind and got hold of her, she struggled to try and get away, the other guy grabbed hold of her.
Within minutes, the police were on the scene and despite the woman continuing to struggle, she was eventually persuaded to return to safety on the bridge.
