Digger used in Whetstone cash machine burglary

co-op whetstone dog and gun laneDetectives are investigating after thieves driving a digger stole a cash machine from a supermarket in Whetstone.

The Co-op in Dog and Gun Lane was targeted at about 2am today (Tuesday 21 October) and the burglary is being linked to the theft of a digger from nearby Springwell Lane about an hour earlier.

A flat-bed style lorry is believed to have been used by the suspects as they fled the scene, driving off in the direction of the A426.

Detective Constable 1818 Stuart Palmer, who is investigating the burglary, said:

“The digger was used to ram the front of the store in order for the suspects to remove the cash machine.

“We believe it was then loaded onto a flat-bed style lorry before being driven off through the car park of the nearby pub.

“Our investigation is ongoing and we’re keen to hear from anyone with information about the incident. Did you see any suspicious activity in the area? Do you know anything about the burglary?

Regardless of how insignificant you think the information is, we want to hear from you.”
