Posted on June 9, 2011November 27, 2011 by staff

The long service of two Enderby Parish Councillors was recognised prior to the Council Meeting on Wednesday 8th June when each were presented with an inscribed shield bearing the logo of the Parish Council.

Former councillors Mr Ken Thomas and Tony Negus both retired from Council duties in May this year.

Presenting the shields, Council Chairman Cllr. Jim Bartlett first addressed his remarks to Mr Thomas who had faithfully and loyally served as a member of the Council for 41 years. During his time on the Council Mr Thomas had been elected Council Chairman on five occasions between 1977 and 2003, served as Chairman of the Planning Committee on 4 occasions and Chairman of the Policy and Finance Committee on no less than 19 occasions – a remarkable record.

Cllr Bartlett said:

“On behalf of the Council, I wish to thank Ken Thomas for his long and dedicated public service and for his invaluable support and excellent contribution towards the work of the Council which has been very much appreciated by us all. He will be greatly missed as a former senior member of this Council”

Cllr Bartlett wished Mr Thomas good health and a happy retirement before moving on to remark on the 25 years of long and distinguished service to the Parish Council by Mr Tony Negus.

Mr Negus first joined the Council as a co-opted member in June 1986. He is a past Chairman of the Council having been elected in May 1993 and again in May 2007. He has served as Vice Chairman of the Planning Committee on 3 occasions, Vice Chairman of the Policy and Finance Committee and Chairman/Vice Chairman of the Recreation and Amenities Committee on 8 occasions.

Cllr Bartlett pointed to Mr Negus’ long and distinguished service, particularly for the invaluable work and contribution in respect of recreation and amenities which had been an important service in his portfolio.

Presenting Mr Negus with his inscribed shield, Cllr Bartlett wished him a long and happy retirement with his family, continuing to enjoy outdoor pursuits.
