It is one of only 13 district councils to achieve four stars – the highest possible rating – and 31 councils nationwide.
Every year SOCITM carries out an independent audit of all UK council websites.
Star ranking is given to each site based on a structured survey of 259 questions which includes navigation, use of search, A-Z list and accessibility.
It also includes how quick and easily it is to complete a series of top tasks; these include reporting a missed bin, finding out about a planning decision, applying for a council tax reduction, and reporting a fly-tipping incident to name a few.
Each year the assessment gets more difficult as councils are expected to keep up-to-date with technical advancements, and this year the assessment included how well the websites work on mobile devices.
In previous years Blaby District Council has fluctuated between two and three stars, but the latest SOCITM report has rated Blaby’s website as a four star and featured it in their list of top 20 council websites nationwide.
Councillor Clements, portfolio holder for Corporate Service, Performance and Leisure, said:
“This is a huge achievement for us. Not only have we received the highest possible rating, but the website has made the top 20 best-developed list and been identified to provide a benchmark for others.
“We recognise that we can still improve the users experience and will continue to develop the website. The report helps us to identify where we need to be making improvements to serve our residents better online.”
SOCITM commended Blaby District Council on its near perfect implementation and presentation of customer journeys, with one reviewer stating it is his favourite website this year.
The Council launched its revamped website in June 2013 along with two new services; My Blaby and Find My Nearest. Users can type in their postcode to get information that is specific to their area including refuse and recycling collections, council tax costs, schools in their catchment area, and district and county councillors.
