Centenary celebration for Blaby Farmers’ Market

080-farmers-marketThis weekend will see Blaby Farmers’ Market reach its 100 successful event in the district.

Leicestershire Food Links, a not-for-profit organisation, and Blaby District Council have been working in partnership to run the markets, and to celebrate will be handing out free cake on Saturday 22 November.

The monthly market offers a range of food including meats, speciality breads, cheeses, pies, cakes, and eggs. It is usually held in the Enderby Road car park from 9am to 2pm on the fourth Saturday of each month.

Cllr.Greenwood: “…an appetite for fresh local produce”

Cllr Tony Greenwood, portfolio holder for Planning, Economic Development and Housing Strategy, said:

“The Farmers’ Market is certainly a good news story for Blaby. It attracts hundreds of shoppers and makes Blaby a busy and bustling town centre on market days. It shows there is an appetite for local fresh produce from local producers.”

There will also be a Farmers’ Market on Friday 28 November to coincide with the Christmas Lights switch-on in Blaby, taking place on Lutterworth Road from 9am to 2pm.

There will be no market in December; the next one is taking place on Saturday 24 January 2015.
