Outstanding Achievement Awards

The search is on to find and honour neighbourhood superstars in the Blaby district.

The Council’s tenth annual Outstanding Achievement Awards are fast approaching and friends, families and workmates are being asked to put forward individuals or groups who they think deserve recognition for making a difference in their community.

Nominations are now being accepted for the following categories:

  • Outstanding achievement by a young person
  • Selfless services to a voluntary body or the community which is of a social or environmental nature
  • Sporting achievement
  • Community or voluntary group that improves the quality of life for residents in the district
  • Individual or group that makes the district a safer place to live

Council leader Ernie White said:

“I am delighted we have been able to host the awards for ten consecutive years and shine the spotlight on those who have enhanced the quality of people’s lives within the district.

“There are so many people doing wonderful things and it is important we recognise their achievements. I’m looking forward to seeing which local heroes we can uncover this time round.”

Last year Daisy Platts won the award for sporting achievement after becoming a Go Gold talent athlete for a second year in a row, and qualifying for the British Gas National Championships in the 12 year age group when still only 11 years old.

Local publication Braunstone Life won the community group award for providing residents with valuable information and neighbourhood news for over 25 years.

The 2013 awards have received generous sponsorship from Grove Park Commercial Centre, Fosse Shopping Park, Ford & Slater, Leicester Marriott, Bardon Aggregates, Leicester Chamber of Commerce and Westleigh Developments ltd.

Finalists will be invited to a presentation dinner on 10th October 2013 where cash prizes and awards will be presented to the winners and runners up.

Since 2004 more than 50 individuals and groups from across Blaby have been recognised for making a difference in their communities.

Submit your nomination online at www.blaby.gov.uk/awards or request a form by contacting the communications team atpublic.relations@blaby.gov.uk or 0116 272 7648.

The deadline for entries is August 10.
