Christmas celebrations began in Blaby on Friday 25th with a traditional market which was followed by Miss Blaby, Tammy Dexter, turning on the town’s festive lights at Johns Court shopping precinct.
The market opened at 11am and continued throughout the day and then the big switch on took place in the precinct at 6.30pm. Late night shopping with mince pies and mulled wine for afters was available – and of course the chippy did a good trade!
Real reindeers were on hand, paying a flying visit to the town with Santa Claus and his elves to completing the festive atmosphere.
Close by at the Blaby Road / Lutterworth Road junction, Enderby Youth Band performed a number of seasonal tunes and carols.
Face painting, balloon modelling and lots more activities were on offer during the day including the BB19 youth bus. Families were able to enjoy a hog roast and children kept warm on a bouncy castle.
Pupils from Blaby Stokes and Thistly Meadows primary schools provided entertainment with Christmas songs, a Christingle parade and nativity scene, while Santa and children’s entertainer Mr Twister amused the crowds.
The event was organised by Blaby Parish Council in partnership with Blaby District Council.
