Blaby District Council launches Dementia Action Alliance

Posted on April 15, 2015 by staff

Dimentia {graphic)Blaby District Council is launching the Dementia Action Alliance (DAA) at the Council’s offices on Tuesday 19 May 2015, between 1pm-3pm.

The DAA is made up of a group of organisations who have joined together with the aim of making Blaby District a better place to live for people with dementia and their carers.

Blaby District Council is celebrating the launch by inviting people along to find out how making just a few simple changes in a business or organisation can make a big difference to someone with dementia.

At the event there will be advice about dementia support services and information for Blaby residents, businesses and community groups on how they can improve the quality of life for people living with dementia and their carers. Activities will also include Singing for the Brain, Books on Prescription and a Laughter Workshop.

There will also be a chance to take part in a Dementia Friends Information Session. Blaby District has an increasing ageing population and it is expected that the number of people living with dementia locally is expected to almost double by 2030.

Gill Collins, East Midlands Dementia Action Alliance Coordinator, said:

“This event will help to showcase the advice and information available for residents regarding dementia.

“Dementia can severely affect the lives of people living with the illness, and those caring for people with it. We hope to raise the public’s awareness on what they can do to help anyone directly affected by dementia. What they can offer will be invaluable.”

For more information about the launch and to confirm your attendance, please contact the Health and Leisure Team at Blaby District Council on 0116 272 7703 or e-mail leisure@blaby.gov.uk.
