A fun-packed programme of sport and physical activity is taking place in Blaby district this summer.
From traditional sports like tennis, netball and badminton to the new dance fitness craze, Bokwa, Active Together Blaby have organised something for everyone in towns and villages across the district.
Councillor David Clements, portfolio holder for health improvement at Blaby District Council said: “This is going to be a fantastic summer of sport in Great Britain and we want to give people in Blaby district every opportunity to play their part in it.
“We have organised activities and events for people of all ages and abilities so everyone can join in, get fit and most importantly, have a great time.”
An outdoor danceathon is taking place at Northfield Park, Blaby, on Friday July 13 from 6pm-9pm as part of the Big Dance 2012, the UK’s biggest celebration of dance.
A day of family fun and games has also been organised at Fosse Meadows, near Sharnford, on Thursday July 26 to mark Love Parks Week (July 21-29).
Volunteer led walks are taking place on Wednesdays throughout the summer in Huncote, Kilby, Glen Parva, Blaby, Sharnford and Burbage Common giving people the chance to explore their local area on foot.

Bootcamp
An outdoor circuits session that improves fitness by aiding fat loss, better muscle tone and definition, improved fitness, strength and stamina, faster metabolism and higher energy levels with lower stress levels.

Running club
A social running club to help people achieve their goals, whether that is getting fitter, losing weight or training for a running event.

Badminton tournament
For players who play with friends, family and colleagues but who are not members of a club, to come together and compete in a men’s or women’s doubles tournament.

Indoor kurling tournament
Competition for old and new players. Refreshments provided.

Back to Netball
Enjoyed playing netball at school? Stopped playing and would love to start again? This class provides a gentle introduction to the sport for female players over sixteen years of age. Sessions are coach led and cover basic skill development and court play.
