Big crowd at Blaby’s Olympic countdown

More than 500 people celebrated one year to the start of the London 2012 Games at the Blaby Family Day on Sunday July 24.

The event was organised by Blaby District Council as part of Open Weekend, a national programme of events counting down to the Games.

Volunteers, sports players, council members and people who had been nominated by friends and family for special achievements all took part in a relay with the1948LondonOlympic torch.

Councillor David Jennings, portfolio holder for health and community services said: “The day was a real success and hopefully everyone came away feeling inspired and excited about the next year’s games.”

Family activities included face painting, glitter tattooing, arts and crafts, mini toddler games, storytelling and fencing.
