Arts in the Parks needs you!

Posted on May 28, 2013 by staff

active arts bouskell parkVoluntary group ‘Active Arts’ has teamed up with Blaby District Council to host a major family event at Blaby’s Bouskell Park.

Arts in the Parks is taking place on Saturday June 22 and organisers are looking for volunteers to get involved and make sure the day is a success.

Volunteers are needed to help from 9am with the setting up of marquees and gazebos, moving tables and chairs and also to help unload cars and set up stalls. Then at 4pm to help to take down everything and completely empty the park ready for the public to use it again the following morning.

Activities taking place include kite making, drumming workshops, clay modelling, face painting, willow workshops, maypole dancing, the utterly butterly ukulele project, bouncy castle, and tombola.

There will also be food stalls, refreshments, and a number of local groups including Blaby Heritage, Blaby Drama Group, A Place to Grow and the Leicester Forest Photographic Society.

Ian Paterson, Chairman of Active Arts, said:

“Arts in the Park came about after Blaby District Council asked us to work with them to develop an arts programme for the district. Since first coming up with the idea the event has grown considerably and even now we’re still getting new activities and organisations agreeing to take part.”

The day starts at 10am with activities taking place at the Blaby Precinct and Farmers Market.

There will be stories and a free craft event in the Library from 10.30am, and Blaby Society of Artists will be holding an Art Exhibition and selling refreshments in the Drop-in Centre from 10am. Bouskell Park will then play host to a number of stalls and workshops from 12pm – 4pm.
