Appeal following fatal collision in Whetstone

Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision on New Years Eve in Whetstone.

The collision happened at around 11.30am on Monday December 31, 2012 on the A426 Lutterworth Road at its junction with Countesthorpe Road.

It involved two vehicles a silver Peugeot 106 and a black Fiat Panda.

The driver of the Peugeot, Margaret Mitton (79) of Countesthorpe, received fatal injuries and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers from the same vehicle were taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment to their injuries. One of them has since been discharged whilst the other remains there in a stable condition.

The driver of the Fiat sustained minor injuries which required hospital treatment.

Detective Constable Ady Keeble, the investigating officer, said: “At the time of the collision, the Peugeot was travelling along Countesthorpe Road from the direction of Countesthorpe and the Fiat was travelling along the A426 towards Lutterworth.

“We would like to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle beforehand to please contact police.”

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is anonymous, on 0800 555 111 .
